Course Description

This WSIB approved one-day Intermediate First Aid (Formerly known as Standard First Aid) with CPR & AED Recertification course is specifically for those who have a current Intermediate or Standard First Aid Certification that is about to expire. Upon successfully completing this review and demonstration of first aid/CPR skills, you will be certified to offer help to anyone in need for another 3 years. This course meets Workplace Safety Insurance Board legislation.

Important Notice: Changes to WSIB First Aid Training Effective June 22, 2026

As of June 22, 2026, WSIB has updated the naming and standards for workplace first aid training:

  • Standard First Aid is now referred to as Intermediate First Aid
  • Individuals who completed training prior to June 22, 2026 do not need to retake their training as a result of these changes.
  • All valid certificates issued before June 22, 2026 will remain recognized and valid until their normal expiry date. Upon renewal, participants will receive certification under the new course names and standards adopted by WSIB.
  • There is no requirement for current certificate holders to obtain additional training or renew their certification early due to these changes.

Intended Audience

Those who have a current Canadian Red Cross Intermediate or Standard First Aid certificate that is about to expire and are seeking recertification.

Course Prerequisites

Participants must have current Canadian Red Cross Intermediate or Standard First Aid Certification that is about to expire. Your card cannot be expired (it expires 3 years to the day after it was issued).

NOTE: You would have to bring the old certificate to the class (printed or a copy on the phone). If your certificate is ALREADY expired, you would have to take a full Standard First Aid course.

Course Duration

8 hours in-class (1-day in-class); includes CPR Level A, Level C, and AED

Certification

3-year certification in Intermediate First Aid, CPR Level C, and AED

What is the difference between Level A and Level C CPR Courses?

CPR Level A = adults only CPR & AED skills

CPR Level A covers CPR, choking, and circulatory emergencies for adults only, plus AED use. It is commonly required for workplace health and safety compliance.

CPR Level C = adults, children, and infants CPR & AED skills

CPR Level C includes everything in CPR Level A, plus CPR and choking care for children and infants, two-rescuer CPR, and AED use. It is often required for educators, security personnel, and other non-healthcare professionals.
