Stop The Bleed
Course Description: Stop the Bleed is an initiative of the American College of Surgeons and the Hartford Consensus that provides individuals the skills and basic tools to stop uncontrolled bleeding in an emergency situation and save lives. Similar to how the general public learns and performs CPR, the public must learn proper bleeding control techniques, including how to use dressings, and tourniquets.
Intended Audience: Eligible students are any individuals who may be called upon to assist with trauma patients while waiting for first response or EMS to arrive. The course has been designed for students who have received little or no prior medical training. Examples of potential students include construction workers, farmers, hunters, anglers, and outdoors enthusiasts, and everyone over the age of 13
Course Prerequisites: None
Course Overview:
Massive bleeding from any cause, where a response is delayed can result in death. Victims can quickly die from uncontrolled bleeding, within 3 to 5 minutes

- Primary Principles of Trauma Care Response
- The ABC of Bleeding
- Ensure You Own Safety
- How to stop the bleed with the help of the dressings, gauze, clean cloth
- How to stop the bleed with the help of the tourniquets
Course duration (time/days): 2 hours
Certification: Certification in Stop The Bleed is valid forever
